Crafty? Talented? Disposable income?
by Steven Weinacht (out-of-game)on Wed Aug 6 13:58:40 2008
Are you crafty? Do you know how to make things from nothing? Are you artistic? do you enjoy the scent of latex and paint? Most importantly, do you have disposable income?
If so, then Legends needs you! Thats right, you!
As you can tell from previous posts, Legends needs a new set of uber cool Fury wings. We also need a brand new and slightly more than awesome ogre costume. Unfortunately at some point in the past some staff member and some players volunteered to repair our old ones.... and those costumes have not been seen since.
We need all new ones and we need our Legends community to help out. At this time we can not really afford to build these on our own (and most of our staff would have no idea how) so we need our legends family members to help out. There will be large amount of CP's available to any who think they are up to the challenge, as well as some other neat little in-game benefits.
Please DO NOT just make these things and show up at the NPC center with them. Please coordinate with myself or John ahead of time and we will get back to you with specifics.
Thank you, Steven Weinacht

Suggestion:
To save some cash and make them much more 'clean up and storage' friendly, instead of the giant square ogres make 'Zug' costumes.
In other words, make those foam 'football shouldepad' costumes with the burlap that drapes down and gives the illusion of large size.
Then for height do two things: 1) Use elevator shoes :) 2) Have anyone play an ogre, but have a height chart. If the ogre is less than 5 feet, he's a baby ogre! with only moderate stats. If he's 5-7 feet, he's an adult with decent stats. If he's over 7 feet, he's ancient ogre with MONSTER STATS!

Where is the ogre costume that you sometimes see in a pic on the mainpage (being fought by what looks like a pirate)? Just curious, I am sure it is either destroyed or manky, but it might give someone some good idea on how to build one of these costumes.

That horrible, you had to wear a safety helmet while using it, costume is gone the way of bigfoot. It just walked off on day and we have not seen it Since. We need a new better stronger oge! One that isn't two mattresses (that small like cheese) sewn together! NO! I say nay to requirung a safety helmet! Nay to a latex mask on top of a fake brain, to which the head always ended up backwards! No more mesh screen in the the middle of the cheese mattress that always poked me in the eye! No more looking like the ogre was part T-rex with tiny non-ogre arms growing out of its hip! For shame on the one billion pound heat stroke inducer! Now is Time for a better ogre for all! One that is cool looking yet not teh suck to wear! The only good thing to come out of the old costume was the video. Little secret, used to be when we got a new cast member, a little prank would happen. One of the older cast would come up and say: "Hey you look you'd be perfect for a role. wanna play something awesome?" Next thing you know your dying of heat stroke wearing a safety helmet as the players beat you mercilessly like a pinatta at a weight watchers convention. *sob* I... I'm better now. Yes we need a new ogre costume.

Like I said Neil: A big ol foam shoulderpad thing with burlap that draps around the body like the golem Zug.
Then add elevator shoes or some sort of mini stilts (not TRUE stilts, but maybe 5 or 6 inches of foam taped to a boot.

Charlie, do you remember the BFM costume from the spook walk? Stilts + Legends= Broken Ankles.

So why is it we didn't have millions of hippies with broken ankles during the 60s and 70s? Why is it we don't have millions of women with broken ankles after using high heels?
Those feet you had were much taller....not only that, they were wide. It was like wearing couch cushions on your feet. Not exactly condusive to walking.
Elevator shoes would work. Why not try it? Go to a thrift store and get a pair and try them at some point. Even something that gives an extra 3 inches would work.
And those aren't even needed. If you give an NPC ogre stats based on overall height, then you just need really big staff to get the bigger ogres out there. The elevator shoes are just there to give a few people a boost if they want bigger ogres.

Charlie, I'm not saying your idea does not have merit, nor denying the fact that it is possible. But the camp has very uneven and rough terrain not suitable for stilts or platforms. If someone wants to be an ogre and thats their way of doing it, and they are confident that they can do it, by all means sign a waiver and go for it. But knowing wow fast paced combat can be even for the safest of fighters, and how uneven the terrain can be. I cannot condone that as standard ogre costume. The shoulderpad Idea could work. An idea that was passed around was a shoulder piece that was raised about head level to give an illusion of size and a healmet head like the ultimate evil (which was more comfortable than the ogre safety helmet and looked cooler) Kind of a hodge poge of past "giant creature" costumes. The arms might look a little off though not as bad as the original, and it would be shorter than the old ogres. But it would look "big" safer than stilts, maybe a little awkward. Though an infinite improvement. The problem with UE was the chest wing harness. the helmet head was actually cool looking and easy to maneuver. So instead of a full harness just large shoulder pads. Thats my theory if people can come up with better please do. I personally don't think stilts or elevated shoes are safe for the campgrounds. But thats just me. Oh and Charlie there probably are millions of people with broken ankles from such things. Its a big world out there.

Everyone's making excellent points here...
I have found in general though...specifically directing comments at another person involved in the conversation tends to escalate into arguments and hurt feelings.
State your case, and respond to other peoples opinions in a general manner without throwing any kind of negative or snarky remarks at the person you're responding to.
I've seen way too many of these things turn into some kind of nastiness....
Chill out..we're all friends here. :-)

Oh...and note that I'm only talking about Out of Game chatter on the message boards here. Feel free to argue and make snarky remarks at eachother all you want, if the post is In Game. :-)
